What is a blog

Printer-friendly versionSend to friendPDF version

A blog should be .........

  • a place where anyone can write about how their day went, or what they will do tomorrow, or what they are working on, or what their Pet peeve is, or what they think about a certain topic, or how they feel, or what they don't feel, or anything they want.
  • a place where ag businesses can post news releases, promote new products and services, innovations, advise on upcoming events, present useful information, and the like    These type of posts will now go under the "Announcements" section of the site.

This blog should eventually be THE place to see and hear about the latest in what's going on in agriculture in your neighborhood and around the world.

What we don't want to see is......

  • someone listing items for sale or auction. Attaching a file or flyer is OK.  These items will now go under the "Auctions" section of the site.
  • someone selling Chairs and lamps or the latest pill or whatever. Keep it ag related! No SPAM!

The auction ads are not announcements, they are commercial advertising.  When Mike posted the information on the tractor drive benefit for the local pastor, that was an announcement.  That was an appropriate entry and use of the blog forum.

These auction guys are seeking to benefit from a free attempt of promotion of their business or product.  It's not being "provided" as a public service, but rather a greedy abuse of the priviledge.  That's what I find irritating about the auction ads.

The blog rules or guidelines that I have read do say a flyer can be posted, but it is assumed that it is for the aforementioned purposes which don't include commercial advertising.  I will admit that this line is a little confusing:

"What we don't want to see is.....  someone listing items for sale or auction. Attaching a file or flyer is OK."

Let them post it in the classifieds as a dealer.  That way when I come to the blogs I don't have to sort through all of the clutter to find the interesting entries to read and enjoy.

In my opinion the blog pages should not be a place where ag businesses can post news releases, promote new products and services, innovations, advise on upcoming events, present useful information, and the like.  I'm not sure where in the current format they should go, but that is not a blog entry. Perhaps we need a new page for announcements ?

I'm starting to think the same. I will get started on an announcement section for AT+. No promises on when it gets finished.
